Project Old is Gold: Earning Our Preservation Patch

“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is Silver, and the other Gold.”

Girl Scouts have been singing “Make New Friends” since at least 1927 when it appeared in the Girl Scout Pocket Songbook. (I know because I am a Girl Scout AND history geek and I own one.) So when SCAD and Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia presented their Junior age level Historic Preservation Patch at the Nation Trust PastForward conference in Savannah four years ago, I was JAZZED.

And so was my best friend from grad school, Elle.

We got to hang out again this year at Past forward in San Francisco. We were talking about that patch and realized “What if we actually did the guide too and EARNED our historic preservation patch?”

And so, Project Old is Gold was born! For Preservation Month in May, Elle and I be earning our Historic Preservation Patch. Will you join us?
